Frequently Asked Questions
Are there public restrooms near the Colosseum in Rome?
Yes — the Colosseum has restrooms inside for ticketed visitors, and there are public facilities near the Roman Forum entrance on Via Sacra. Outside the site, the surrounding restaurants and bars in Celio are your best options. Use the Throne Score app to compare nearby estimated scores when Google ratings are available.
Are public restrooms free in Rome?
Rome has a limited number of free public restrooms — some in larger piazzas and near major monuments. McDonald's and Quick restaurants are widely used by tourists and generally accessible. The Vatican Museums have free restrooms for ticketed visitors. When you rate a place in Throne Score, you can tag it Needs Code and add a private note about any fee, so you remember next time.
Where are the best restrooms near the Trevi Fountain?
The Trevi Fountain area is one of Rome's most crowded zones with few dedicated public facilities. The nearest reliable option is typically a cafe on Via del Lavatore or Via della Stamperia — a small purchase usually grants access.
What's the restroom situation at Rome Termini station?
Roma Termini has well-maintained paid restrooms (€1) accessible from multiple points in the station. The facilities near Platform 1 and the main hall are typically cleanest. There are also facilities in the Termini shopping centre attached to the station. Use the Throne Score app to compare nearby estimated scores when Google ratings are available.
Is there an app for finding clean Restrooms in Rome?
Yes. Throne Score is free on iPhone and iPad: a color-coded map of nearby places with estimated scores, one-tap Emergency Mode to the nearest open restroom, and 10-second ratings that stay on your phone. No account.
